“Well come on!” Stormy’s voice came from above. Obsi looked up and saw him on the back of one of the circling dragons. “We need to get moving! Get on the beast and let’s go!”
Obsi climbed onto the Gryff and tethered her belongings to the saddle. Once she was settled, the feathered beast launched them into the sky, following several others, including the one carrying Stormy, toward the Stygian Glaze. They passed over the dwarven settlements and gold mines and went toward the edge of the Glaze, near the Twilight Woodlands. There, embedded into a gigantic hillside, was a large building. There were several chimneys that belched smoke into the air and the many fires burning in hearths inside made the building seem as though it was ablaze.
The Gryffs landed on the far side of the roof, away from the smokestacks. As Obsi and Stormy dismounted, they heard the creaking of a door and a loud thud. They turned to see an open trap door in the center of the roof and a head, eyes and above, peering out. The hair was covered in a red bandana which was held in place by a set of goggles.
“Gryffs,” a voice smoky scoffed. “Rosheen must be desperate to have sent humans with Gryffs!”
Stormy bowed. “Oh, great Jynx, Tinkerer Extrodinaire, we are Stormy Raven and Obsidian Wraith. We were indeed sent by Queen Rosheen. We need your help to find Galgrim.”
Jynx poked her head out a tiny bit more, revealing her nose. “What’s happened to Galgrim?” she asked cautiously.
“We do not know,” Stormy replied. “But Queen Rosheen has asked us to seek your wisdom and guidance in this matter.”
Jynx popped her head fully out of the opening. She looked younger than Obsi had expected. Her oval face was lightly coated in soot, except around the eyes which had clearly been protected by the goggles. Her features reminded Obsi of a fox, for reasons Obsi couldn’t explain. Jynx looked both of them over, then pointed to her right at a large stable built farther down the hill and motioned to the Gryffs. The dragons flew off toward shelter. Jynx then motioned for Stormy and Obsi to follow her back inside the building.
Obsi looked down the opening at the metal ladder and sighed. She climbed down after Stormy and was relieved at the sturdiness of the steps. Once at the bottom she turned to gaze upon a giant workshop with several large wooden tables near the outer edges of the room. The walls and floor were wooden as well. Obsi recognized the wood as ghost wood, which was native to the Twilight Woodlands and the only wood in existence that would not catch fire. Good thing, since there were five large fireplaces blazing. One fireplace had a couldren boiling in it (smelled like some type of stew), one was set up for ironwork, one had several small pots hanging inside of it for smelting, another had various glass blowing apparatus on the hearth in front of it, and the last was clearly just a fireplace. There were four large chairs placed around the hearth. Jynx motioned for them to sit. As she seated herself she asked, “So, what happened to Galgrim and how can I help?”
