Leilani met Obsi in front of her hut. "I'm going on an evening patrol, would you join me?"
"Of course! Let me just get changed first."
Obsi went into the hut and changed, but a sound coming from the bag that Goda had brought her caught her attention. She opened the bag and found her screen. Dally was calling.
"It's about time you picked up," Dally scolded with mock annoyance.
Obsi rolled her eyes in mock defiance. "Well I am doing things here, Dally."
"Oh really? Like being a goddess or something?" Dally teased.
Obsi laughed and filled Dally in on what had happened so far. She showed Dally the coral Chelonoth had given to her.
"Ohhh that's gorgeous!" Dally exclaimed. "I just wanted to make sure you were ok, Sis. I'll leave you to your patrol. Oh, and when you do come home I have a surprise for you."
"Oh do you now?" Obsi asked slyly.
Dally laughed. "And, on that note, I must go make sure Kreiger isn't blowing up the research lab again."
Obsi chuckled. "Ok, Sis, I love you and I'll see you soon."
"I love you too," Dally replied, blew her sister a kiss and turned off her screen.
Obsi rushed out of the hut and apologized to Leilani. Lelilani put up her hand. "No need to apologize, she is your sister of course you would stop to talk to her!"
Obsi laughed. "Yes, she is a great person and a great sister. I do miss her but I'm not ready to go home yet."
"That is good to hear," Leilani said as they walked. She pointed to the coral Obsi wasn't aware she was still holding. "A gift from Chelonoth?"
Obsi nodded. "He saved me from a shark."
Leilani stopped walking and put her hand on Obsi's forearm. "Really? Then that piece of coral can be used to summon Chelonoth if you are in danger!"
"Really?" Obsi said, looking at the coral.
"Yes! Let us go and see if it works!" Leilani took off running toward the beach, and Obsi followed. When they got close to the water, Obsi blew into the coral and it made the most melodious sound she had ever heard. Almost immediately, they saw Chelonoth breach in the water not far from the shore. Leilani fell to her knees, her hands covering her mouth. "I have never seen the great Chelonoth. He is beautiful!"
"He most certainly is. I've only heard tales of dragons that actually live in the water. These islands seem to be their home." Obsi trailed off as a pain hit her temples and her ears began to ring. The pain made her sink to her knees. Before Leilani could ask what was wrong, Obsi looked toward the water.
A huge green mass was heading toward them. As it got closer, it looked like a mound of kelp. Suddenly the pain and the sound stopped. The mass pushed itself from the water, revealing it to be Meglok. The women gasped in unison. As Meglok slowly lumbered onto the beach, they both bowed their heads.
"Oh great Meglok," Leilani whispered.
The dragon chuckled, which was a very unsettling sound. "Rise, Leilani of the Wind Tribe and Obsidian of the Wraith Tribe. I have a task for you both."
The women stood and looked at Meglok. He was very impressive and held himself in a regal manner. "Obsidian has been brought here to fulfill a purpose. Leilani, you must take her to the Shrine of Namaka so she can complete her task."
"What is the task?" Obsi asked.
Meglok chuckled again. "You will know, ObsidianWraith. Trust in yourself. When you get to the shrine you will know." With that, Meglok turned and entered the water. They watched him disappear, then burst from the water with Chelonoth and Scorpa following suit.
Obsi and Leilani looked at each other. Leilani sighed.
"No one is going to believe this," she said with a laugh.
"I'm not sure I believe it," Obsi replied.
"Well," Leilani said she began to continue the patrol, "We should plan to go to the Shrine tomorrow. It will be dark soon, and I would not want anyone going deep into that cave in the dark. There are creatures that patrol that area of the jungle at night, at least according to legend, and I am not dismissive of legends any longer."
Obsi nodded. "I agree. Plus, after that, I think I need a drink!"
Leilani laughed. "Once we get back to the village, we will go to Grandmother's hut. She has a personal supply of the best stuff on the island."
"That is the best plan I've heard in a long time," Obsi said with a smile. "Let's get this patrol done."
As they walked along the beach, a large creature watched them from the nearby jungle. It flew back toward the shrine to wait for their arrival.
