Gunnar sighed as he landed outside his secluded cave in the Narrows and sulked his way inside. He flopped to the floor and laid his head on his paws, ignoring his still growling stomach, and closed his eyes. His thoughts went again to the day of his escape. That was the last time his belly had been full. What was it that he didn’t want to eat? There was something his master had tried to feed to him…
He remembered her smell, and had found it on a few bases lately, but had not caught a glimpse of her yet. She was kind, even though his master wanted Gunnar to kill her.
“You won’t eat me, will you boy?” she had said, gently touching one of his deadly horns. “You’re a good boy aren’t you?”
Gunnar groaned, putting one of his paws over his eyes. The Girl might be the only one who didn’t think he was a monster. He knew he wasn’t.
Tired of being alone and afraid, Gunnar rolled onto his side to sleep in his cave one more time before he began his search for The Girl. He just had to find Her, and hope she was still kind and would give him what he wanted more than food.
