Dally let go of her sister’s wrist and stopped abruptly, so that Obsi almost ran into her. She looked over her shoulder with a mischievous smile and said, “Well then HURRY UP! You have just GOT to see this!”
Obsi followed her the rest of the way across Dally’s base to the Training Den. The druids stood outlining the outer ring in front of the trench around the platform, hands at their sides and hooded heads bowed as they entered. Druid Krieger raised his head and smiled at them. He clapped his hands once, and the druids slowly backed away from the trench, standing in a line on either side.
What was on the platform was truly a surprise.
The dragon before them reminded her of Chunk, but looked more like a dragon/fish hybrid than a hippopotamus. Its skin was smooth and pale gray. On either side of its slender, oval shaped head were three dark-pink spikes. Its wings and tail were trimmed in pink as well, and its long claws were also pink. It seemed to be toothless, but when it opened wide Obsi saw what she thought were dozens of rows of razor sharp serrations on the roof of its mouth.
It was an Axi. And it was the most adorable thing Obsi had ever seen.
Obsi squealed with delight when Axi blew bubbles.
Dally laughed. “She has a bubble shield that acts like Necryxs’ barrier, and she attacks with rainbows!”
As if on cue, Axi stood on her hind legs and licked her front paws. A collective “aww!” rose from the druids in the room, and Obsi clasped her hands in front of her heart.
“Is she part cat too? Leos is part cat…why doesn’t Leos do that!??!”
Dally laughed and Druid Krieger smiled. “Because Leos is a gladiator. Gladiators only lick blood off their feet. They are not interested in general hygiene.” Obsi smiled and stared at Axi as the Druid continued. “But don’t let the look of this one fool you, Little One. She is adorable, there is no argument there. But she is tough; a true hunter with the spells to match. Bubbles and rainbows do not sound tough, but these spells will definitely do damage.”
“I can imagine,” Obsi replied, still in awe.
Dally put her arm around her sister. “Would you like to fly her?” she said softly.
Obsi jumped back in surprise. “What? Yes! Oh yes!” she exclaimed, jumping up and down while clapping her hands like an excited toddler.
Druid Krieger waved his hand and three of the closest druids hurried to get the dragon ready for flight. Obsi spent a few minutes petting Axi’s muzzle and scratching her chin before climbing onto the dragon’s back. She turned to her sister and said, “I’m going to destroy a base with rainbows!” before nudging Axi into the sky.
Dally laughed. Druid Krieger leaned over and whispered, “Do you think she’ll bring Axi back?”
Dally feigned indignance. “She’d better. I know where she lives!”
