Dally was standing in front of her screen with her arms crossed over her chest when Ryder entered. The look on her face was a strange mix of concern, anger and anticipation. Ryder paused and chose her words carefully before she spoke.
“So, you’ve seen? The islands?”
Dally nodded. “Gustav is there somewhere.”
“Are you going after him?”
Dally shook her head. “No. We attack as a team. Whatever leadership decides we do is what we do.”
Ryder nodded. “Glad to hear that. Going rogue only sounds like a good plan until you act on it. It usually doesn’t end well.”
A voice from the corner of the room made Ryder jump slightly. “You must be the exception to that,” Obsi said with a laugh.
Ryder smiled slyly. “I’ll have to get used to you two being together all the time.”
“Me too,” the sisters said in unison.
“We will find Gustav,” Dally said. “And as much as I’d love to be there to at least see the light go out in his cold, evil eyes, I’ll settle for knowing he’s no longer poisoning the world with his existence.”
Obsi shook her head. “I want to be the one to drive my dagger into the space where his heart should be. Or his brain. Or his…”
“Ok Obsi that’s enough,” Dally said with a smile. “One step at a time. Right now, we have quests to complete.”
As Dally turned for the door, a Druid entered hastily. “Forgive my intrusion, Lord Dallyah, but Necryx is not himself.”
“He must sense the islands,” Ryder said, “and Kharnyx.”
“Is he all right?” Dally asked as she moved toward the door.
“He seems to be,” the Druid said, “he ate this morning and Grogg Timur took him on a run and said he was fine. He’s just not…moving…”
Dally rushed out the door, the Druid, Ryder and Obsi struggling to keep up. She broke into a run once she entered the Den and didn’t stop until she was in Necryxs stall. The dragon was standing perfectly still, the only movement his shallow breaths. Dally put a hand on the side of his face and he jumped.
“Whoa boy, easy,” Dally said softly, stroking his neck. “You’re safe. No one will hurt you any more. He won’t hurt you. I will keep you safe.”
Necryx made a sound that was somewhere between a growl and a groan and put his head close to Dally’s. She put her forehead on his and stroked his chin. “You are mine now. I will always take care of you.”
Necryx shook himself like a dog and licked Dally’s face. “Eeeewwwww!” she laughed. The Druid handed her a towel and she wiped her face.
“Thank you…I’m sorry what is your name?”
“They call me…Tim.”
“Thank you Druid Tim. Can you do me a favor and get him ready to go out again? Like I said earlier, we have quests to do!”
