"About wanting to see your mother. I know there was a time when if someone had told me that I could see her again, I would have done anything to make that happen.
Rajani turned her head to look at Dally. "I never met my mother. She was sucked into The Void seconds after I was born. I have never been able to find anyone who knew her, really. Papa Reggie and the midwife who delivered me raised me. Metis is wonderful, everything a mother should be and more, and Papa is too, but..."
"It's not the same," Dallyah finished.
Rajani nodded. "I know I was a fool to think Kharnyx could bring her back. I'm not sure I really believed she could. But I had to try, or I would be wondering the rest of my life if it was possible. But now, seeing what came out of The Void...I don't want to know what she would be if we could bring her out."
"Tell me about the thing that came through the portal."
Rajani sighed. "It was awful. I felt nothing but dread when I saw it. It was huge...it seemed to glow...it's head looked like it was made of fire...it had the same masks that Lusian has. Other than that, I didn't get a good look at it."
"Well that's a good start. I suppose we should just wait and see if there are any reports of it showing up anywhere and take it from there."
A knock on the door cut off Rajani's reply. Timur entered.
"I apologize for the interruption, Lord Dallyah, but the boat is pulling into the harbor."
Dally rose and motioned for Rajani to do the same. "Thank you, Timur. Well, let's go and see if the good captain has any news for us."
